What are the recommended browsers for Understand Scoring? To get the best performance possible while visiting Understand Scoring, we recommend that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher or Firefox 38.0 or higher or Google chrome latest version (if you are using a PC), and Safari 6 or higher or Firefox 38.0 or higher (if you are using a Mac). Regardless of which browser you use, make sure that you have JavaScript, cookies, and Java enabled. These features are the default settings when you install a new browser and should already be activated (unless you have previously been directed to disable them by a different website).[Return to Top] Why can't I see the resource after I select it? What does it mean that a Pop-up window was blocked?Check that your pop-up blocker software is not preventing a new browser window from opening. For more information on disabling pop-up blockers, see the Pop-up Blocking question below.[Return to Top] How do I disable the pop-up blocking software? There are many different pop-up blockers (for example, Google Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, Pop-up Stopper, Pop-up Manager, etc.). Although each pop-up blocker is slightly different, most of them have similar features. To allow popups, follow the directions specific to each browser.[Return to Top] What are plug-ins?While your browser can handle many types of files, occasionally it needs a plug-in or helper application to extend it to handle things like audio, video, and animation. Although separate programs, plug-ins literally plug into your browser and give it an extra boost of power to manage more complicated files and make your experience as a user more interesting and interactive. Depending on your browser version, you might need to download a plug-in to view a video or hear an audio file. The most commonly used plug-ins are Adobe Acrobat Reader and Flash. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash Player, and Shockwave Player from Adobe's website (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/).[Return to Top] What are cookies? Are they bad for my computer?Cookies are how websites remember who you are. When you come to a site, the site may ask your computer to associate a short line of text with that particular website. This is called "dropping a cookie." Then, when you return to that site, that site can ask for that line of text back. This is called "picking up a cookie." websites usually do this to determine you've previously visited the site. Most cookies are safe and harmless. If you don't want your computer to use cookies, you can turn them off in your browser preferences.[Return to Top] Sometimes the website does not remember the changes I made.I select some score and when I return to these screens the selected score is gone. This problem usually occurs when you use the browser Back button to move from page to page. When using this website you should not use the browser Back button. Therefore, changes you make on one page are not reflected when you recall a previous page from memory. Please use the menu bar and navigation buttons in the Understand Scoring application to move from screen to screen on this website.[Return to Top] Why does the page not display properly when I use the browser's Back button? Many of the pages within Understand Scoring contain lists which are generated as you request them. As a result, using the browser's Back and Forward buttons may not generate the page as expected. Move around the Understand Scoring site by using the Understand Scoring navigation such as Tabs, Sub-navigation links, and other Understand Scoring links.[Return to Top] Why does a portion of the screen no longer show up?The screen only displays the top portion; the lower portion with items and video is missing. This may occur if you were viewing an Understand Scoring screen but you have not performed an activity with Understand Scoring for a while. If 15 minutes has elapsed since your last activity with Understand Scoring, the server will 'time-out' your session. The server is set this way for security and performance reasons. When the time-out occurs, you will see the popup about the session time out. You should close the browser window. Then restart the browser and login to the Understand Scoring site again.[Return to Top] Why do pages not display properly when using bookmarking or favorites on the Understand Scoring site?Pages within Understand Scoring will be loaded as you request them. As a result, retrieving a page via bookmarking or Favorites may not load as expected. Please access Understand Scoring by login to the site. Also, move around the Understand Scoring site by using the Understand Scoring navigation tab (for example "Educator Home") and the menu tabs (for example "Scoring Summary"). Using the browser's Back and Forward buttons should be avoided because, as with bookmarking, some pages may not load as expected.[Return to Top] How do I print content from the Understand Scoring website?Understand Scoring screens which contain information which was meant to be printed have a Print button. Other screens such as videos and student papers are not meant to be printed.Print Option will be available for Rubric, Prompt and Scoring Summary. Simply use the Print button in the screen.
